Memories from Engraw’s plogging initiative from Fray Marcos Mayor Stella Mary Tucuna

“I first learned about Plogging from Cecilia Capobianco. Together with her, we began to organize an event that took place on a Sunday, May 22, which consisted of gathering around the city ́s letter sign. Little by little, neighbors, young and older people started to arrive to engage in the activities. The tours were by bicycle, approximately 10 km round trip, jogging at a slow pace (8 km) and walking approximately 3 km, along Route 7 up to the bridge in Santa Lucía river. It was an innovative event for the city. Something that caught our eye was the variety of waste that was scattered around the city, such as paper, snack bags, candy or chocolate wrappings, beverage cans and bottles, etc. These residues were deposited in large bags which the District Council later took to their final destination. I believe that this was an enlightening day for our city and allowed us to raise awareness on environmental care and its impact. It is the Council's intention to organize another event to consolidate these efforts and turn Fray Marcos into a model city with regards to environmental and health care."
